The Caldwell Study Abroad Scholarship Endowment Application allows qualified students to apply for the following study abroad opportunities:

James and Ivel Caldwell Scholarship
The James and Ivel Caldwell Scholarship was established in 1993 for the purpose of providing financial assistance to overseas travel for any Arts and Sciences major wishing to study abroad. Applicants should have a minimum 3.0 GPA in their major and in foreign language courses. This scholarship was made possible by James P. Caldwell in honor of his parents, Dr. and Mrs. James Caldwell.

Nowlin-Caldwell Scholarship
This scholarship was established to provide financial assistance for students majoring in the College of Arts and Sciences who participate in a recognized study abroad program. Applicants should be sophomore, junior or senior level and be at least 19 years of age prior to departure. Applicants must have a minimum 2.5 overall GPA.

  4. Please provide an essay response to the following topics.

    1.) Description of program: What subjects will you study while abroad? How will instruction be carried out? How many credits will you receive for this program? Will they apply to your major, minor, or general education requirements?

    2.) Statement of Need: Why is a scholarship necessary in order for you to participate in this program?

    3.) Rationale and Goals: Why have you chosen to study abroad? How does this overseas experience complement you academic, career and personal goals? What do you want to achieve through this experience?

    4.) Campus Contribution: Please describe what you will do upon returning from abroad in order to share your study abroad experiences with this campus community.

    5.) Experience outside the United States: Please describe any international experiences you may have had, including where, when, type of experience, etc.

    6.) Other: What contributions have you made to USA thus far? What types of on-campus/off- campus activities have you been involved with? What else should the readers of your scholarship application know about you and your objectives that will help them evaluate your application?
  5. Two letters of recommendation from USA faculty members are required to be considered for this scholarship. For students planning to study in non-English speaking countries, one letter of reference must be from an instructor assessing your language proficiency.
